As it’s midsummer (more or less) this seems an appropriate moment to be starting a blog on the experience of playing the role of Bottom in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Royal Shakespeare Company in London in May 2016. This project, which goes under the general name of A Play For The Nation is a massive undertaking by
one of the country’s leading theatrical institutions working in collaboration with amateur dramatic groups up and down the land.
The seven of us (six actors, one director) have actually been working on this since the start of the year which means we’ve already travelled quite a distance. So before getting involved with what’s currently happening, “Let’s start at the very beginning” (apparently it’s a very good place to start according to Julie Andrews).
Oh, by the way, we are from the Tower Theatre Company in London, the capital’s most active amateur dramatic society and we’d be glad to have you along for the ride.
